Sigma provided plans, procedures, and structural calculations for the engineered demolition of two steam boiler units and the associated steel framing support system located at the Southern California Edison Mountain View Generating Station in San Bernardino, California. The demolition of the boilers consisted of 28 separate explosive detonations that were sequenced over a planned time period to provide the desired cutting and member removal sequence as designed by Duane Houkom, Inc. (DHI). The use of separate detonations minimized the amount of noise and vibration generated by the demolition and governed the direction and sequence of the structure collapse.
Sigma teamed with LVI Environmental Services and Controlled Demolition Inc. (CDI) to provide these demolition services. Please access CDI's YouTube Channel for video footage.
